It’s not every day that you can look in the evening and see the route you’ve traveled since dawn, but one day we found ourselves able to accomplish this.

A generous part of Montenegro’s coastline is the Bay of Kotor, an enormous, fjord-like natural harbor sitting under majestic mountains. After spending a few days in Tivat, in the outer part of the bay, we motored to Kotor, in the inner reaches, and stayed in the marina adjacent to the Old Town. Just before sunset we took a cable car up nearly 4000 feet so we could see the bay, the mountains, and all the way to the Adriatic Sea.
Here, at the top of Mt. Lovcen we discovered that we could recap our day with one view. In the photo, Tivat is just behind John’s cap, and our destination, Kotor, is just behind my cap.

Sunset over the Adriatic, viewed from the mountaintop, was stunning, as well.
