We’ve had another visitor! Our daughter Meg survived 10 days with her parents aboard Quintessa. We are quite aware that part of her mission is to report back to her siblings stateside, answering questions like are our parents insane? and is this adventure going to end well?

Cruising with Meg took us from Split, Croatia to Venice, Italy. We were able to experience city life (Trogir, Sibenik, Pula, Venice), small town vibes (Sali, Unije) and a couple of quiet harbors. Highlights were exploring Trogir’s ancient winding streets and fabulous public market, being invited by a villager in Unije to tour her home from top to bottom (attic to well), visiting Krka National Park’s waterfalls (magnificent even in the eyes of PNW waterfall afficiados); experiencing a loud harborside concert featuring 4 tenors (in Sibenik), stumbling on a production being filmed in Pula’s Roman amphitheater (complete with a chariot race), and exploring the islands of Venice on vaporetti (public water taxis) .

We had a series of really beautiful sailing days with flat seas, favorable winds, sunny skies, puffy clouds, and even dolphins on the bow. And when the day’s travels were done, John and I discovered how helpful it is to have that extra deck hand while docking. Touching land, Meg was our pathfinder in the towns, always sniffing out the best gelato and pizza (thank you, Google girl). Speaking of Google (and Amazon), Meg arrived bearing invaluable boat stuff like toilet gaskets and navigation charts that had been delivered to her in the US of A. Oh, and a replacement phone (sadly, mine was never resuscitated after its swimming lesson).

We’re sorry to see Meg go, but look forward to a return visit, if we passed the test. Starting to order more boat parts now.

So fun to follow your adventures! Didn’t realize you were back on the water until a couple of days ago. Was thinking of you the other day as I picked Hood berries! 🙂 Also, the hanging fuchsia you gifted us four years ago is getting ready to flower again. The gift that keeps on giving! Gracias y buen viaje!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. We have been here (mostly Italy) since the end of February, and have actually used up the 90 days that non-EU residents are allowed to stay in the Shengen region. So we are en route to Portland for June, July, and August. We look forward to Oregon things like hanging fuscias and Hood berries!
